Wegmans
Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is a privately held American supermarket chain based in Gates, New York, that was started in Rochester in 1916. Wegmans has 106 shops in the mid-Atlantic and Northeastern regions as of May 2021. The company currently operates stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, and North Carolina, with plans to expand into Delaware and the District of Columbia.
This Western supermarket has expanded in recent years, with locations ranging from suburban Boston to North Carolina. The family-owned company notably performed the extra mile on safety, and rather quickly, choosing to operate stores at a fraction of their normal capacity without being required to do so (the store's curbside pickup program quickly became one of the hottest bookings in town), implementing daily wellness checks for employees, offering telemedicine if they did not have access to a doctor, alongside now nearly standard safeguards like cash register shields.
There are now more than 100 Wegmans locations, including one in New York City and it is considered to have room for at least 100.
