Westlake Chemical is an internationally renowned manufacturer and supplier of polymers and petrochemicals in various consumer and industrial markets. The company operates in two vertical segments, Olefins and Vinyl, and is an integrated vinyl manufacturer heavily industrially integrated into polyvinyl chloride (PVC) construction products.


Westlake Chemical was founded in 1986 by T. T. Chao, a prominent figure in the global petrochemical industry, after the first acquisition of a polyethylene plant in Lake Charles, Louisiana.


Westlake purchased U.S. chlor-alkali producer Axiall Corporation for US$3.8 billion in 2016. Westlake then acquired the United States building products business of Boral for $2.2 billion in June 2021.
