While You Were Sleeping has sixteen chapters spread across sixteen episodes. This legal drama-fantasy television series follows the lives of three young adults—a field reporter, a prosecutor, and a cop—who have developed the ability to predict future events through their dreams after saving each other many years ago.

This romance, legal drama, and fantasy film tells the story of three young adults who have developed the ability to see the future through their dreams: field reporter Nam Hong-joo (Bae Suzy), rookie prosecutor Jung Jae-chan (Lee Jong-suk), and police officer Han Woo-tak (Jung Hae-in). Some of these dreams depict crimes that Jae-chan must investigate, while others depict disasters that one or more of them must endure. Troubled by these dreams, the three band together to prevent their foreboding visions from becoming reality and to bring down their archenemy, corrupt lawyer Lee Yoo-beom (Lee Sang-yeob).
