Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort
Whiteface Mountain rivals some of the well-known ski resorts in the West with the biggest vertical drop east of the Rocky Mountains. Due to the mountain's 98 percent snowmaking coverage, its 3,400 feet of vertical, varied terrain is always covered in snow during the winter.
Although the mountain leans more toward intermediate and advanced skiers, there is 20% of beginner terrain that will make sure that any rookie skier has a good time. Whiteface is a destination that offers more than just skiing. There are many wonderful dining and entertainment options in the nearby town of Lake Placid, which hosted the 1980 and 1932 Winter Olympics. Spending an afternoon or evening strolling down the charming main street and taking in the mountain town ambiance is very doable.
The stunning views of the surrounding Adirondack Mountains are enjoyed from the summit, where the Cloudsplitter gondola whisks you. The Wilmington Trail, a 2.1-mile leg burner, is one of the ski resort's longest intermediate runs in the Northeast. Nine chairlifts and 87 total runs are available on the hill.
Similar to Gore Mountain, Whiteface recently installed RFID gate systems in the lift lines, eliminating the requirement that you provide your ticket to a lift attendant. The brand-new Legacy Lodge at mid-station is one of the other significant enhancements for the forthcoming season. This magnificent new structure, which houses restaurants and skier services, is architecturally spectacular and has enormous windows that provide unrivaled views of the surrounding mountains.
