Yu Jen Jai

Yu Jen Jai is located in Taiwan's Lukang Township, Changhua County. It was established in 1877 and is known for its Chinese pastries. The Ministry of Culture has designated the original structure as a protected historical site. One of Taiwan's oldest businesses, Yu Jen Jai is known for its "egg yolk pastry" and is frequently cited as one of the best Taiwanese gifts.

Jin Huang established Yu Jen Jai in 1877 and began selling "Phoenix Eye Cakes". The bakery has been located in this structure since the old store's 1930 Baroque construction. The founder's fourth generation great-grandson is the current owner. There are stores for the bakery all around Taiwan.

The second branch store of Yu Jen Jai in Lukang had its veranda dismantled in 2012 as part of the Lukang City Government's efforts to destroy illegal constructions. Its main store had postponed demolition by claiming the structure is important historically. The local literary elite holds the meticulous and sophisticated taste in high regard. Later, as time went on, Yu Jen Jai's legacy endured despite strife and change. Taiwan now offers a number of branches available for purchase. In fact, in addition to Cantonese-style moon cakes, Yu Jen Jai is forced to eat traditional delicacies including water hyacinth cakes, mung bean cakes, and almond cakes. The cakes from the Snowflake Bakery have a delicate beauty that matches their snow-white, layered flavor. Their peculiar mooncake, made with mung bean paste, won the Taiwan Pastry Exhibition Award during the Taisho era in Japan.
