Zenobia, Larnaca
The Zenobia is one of the world's top 10 wreck dives, and it's a wonderful treat for experienced divers. It is also one of the best diving sites in Cyprus. On her port side, the Zenobia had 108 articulated lorries that can still be seen near the wreckage. MS Zenobia was a Challenger-class RO-RO ferry built in Sweden that overturned and sank in the Mediterranean Sea near Larnaca, Cyprus, on her maiden trip in June 1980. From the massive propellers to the ship's dining, both the ferry and its cargo are still intact and intriguing to explore. A plethora of species have made the wreck their home, so keep a look out for schools of grouper, barracuda, and tuna. The trucks and their contents were never recovered, and they now lie on the seafloor, shackled to the decks for all to see.
The seabed is 42 meters deep, with the highest point at 16 meters and visibility of 40 meters. It is a good spot for all trained divers due to the lack of currents and warm water. Zenobia is an excellent choice for your first wreck dive or a series of penetration dives.
In Cyprus, the marine life in and around the wreck is unparalleled. You won't find grouper, barracuda, tuna, turtle, or triggerfish anywhere else... There is an abundance of marine life at the same diving site. Outside the Zenobia, a variety of species can be seen, ranging from enormous Groupers to barracudas and tiny Damselfish. If you look closely, you could notice that the Zenobia is home to tiny Pink Flabellina nudibranchs.
