The Die Goldene Bar at the Haus der Kunst is beautiful both inside and out, but it's especially lovely in the summer when the terrace gets truly golden sundowner rays, as well as the occasional eye candy surfer heading up from the Eisbachwelle for a beer. The gilded wall maps inside are 1937 originals that show the origins of wines, spirits, and tobacco from around the world. They add a luxurious touch to the interior, glistening beneath the gorgeous modernist chandelier, but it's the relaxed, mixed crowd that makes the Goldene Bar so popular.

Chief bartender Klaus St. Rainer is a particular fan of gin, which you’ll find in the signature house cocktail (Tanqueray, Perrier Jouet, lemon, sugar, gin, and tonic foam). At Bar Garçon, a neat little newcomer between Gärtnerplatz and Viktualienmarkt, it's strictly stirred, not shaken. Proprietor Mario is a trained architect who designed much of the bar's minimalist interior, including the marble and wood bar. The bar is small, with mostly bar stools (though snag the coveted window seat if you can) and a great laid-back vibe. The music is disco and soul.

The menu is leather-bound and laid-back, with tasty takes on classics like the Negroni and Manhattan, as well as homemade syrups and juices. There's also a good selection of open wines. Bar Garçon, like many smaller German establishments, accepts only cash. This establishment's homey atmosphere allows guests to unwind after a long day at work. Located on the northeastern end of the cemetery Alter Südfriedhof, Zum Wolf is a well-known American bar at Zum Wolf, a much-loved little bar in the heart of Glockenbach, one of Munich’s prettiest neighborhoods and a popular gay and lesbian district. Since 1812, the Augustiner Keller has been serving foaming ales and has won numerous awards for its fine Bavarian tradition and cuisine. Outdoor seating for 5,000 people is available beneath the garden's magnificent chestnut trees, and there are plenty of warm interior rooms for colder days, including the atmospheric, vaulted-ceiling "Keller". The beer is stored and served in massive wooden barrels. For first-timers, the noisy crowds can be intimidating, but just find a spot at one of the communal tables and you'll soon be chinking glasses late into the night.

The beer at Augustiner is served directly from wooden barrels, and the sound of a bell announces the opening of each new barrel. The serviced area contains over 100 Stammtische (regulars tables), the oldest of which dates back to 1847.
