  1. U Zlatého tygra is a traditional Czech pub housed in a 14th-century building and a former hub of 20th-century political dissidence. This "House at the Golden Tiger" is on Prague's historic pub list as a favorite of 20th-century Czech author Bohumil Hrabal. Other past patrons have included political influencers, such as Bill Clinton and Vaclav Havel discussing US-Czech friendship over Pilsner. When the walls have seen this level of influential history, there won't be many open seats among the long-term regulars.

While almost every tourist guidebook in Prague lists this pub as a "must-see", it still retains some of its old charm, which is well captured in the writings of Bohumil Hrabal. His vivid and poetic descriptions of the table societies at U Tygra are part of the Czech literary canon. When the pub opens at 3 p.m., there is a long line of elderly regulars waiting for their pint. U Tygra is also known for its short menu, which includes only coffee, ordinary red and white wine, soda, and coke in addition to the crisp Pilsner beer. Beer cheese is legendary in the culinary world. The rest of the menu contains classic cold snacks to go with beer and a number of warm dishes, which once in a while may include something exotic.

  3. Fancy a glass of wine in the former swimming pool of an army barracks? Or a beer to go with your outdoor summer film screening? How about a comforting boozy hot chocolate after a spin around a pop-up ice skating rink in winter? This multi-purpose arts complex on the border of Karlín and New Town offers alcoholic drinks and entertainment for all moods and weathers. Kasarna Karlín is a daily open bar with a large offer of drinks, table football, and table tennis free of charge. You can enter the bar from the barracks` courtyard, entrance through the black gate from the Prvního pluku street no. 20/2 near the Negrelli viaduct.

The former garages have been converted into a concert hall with an adjoining bar called the Garages by the owner. Bands from all over the world (Tess Parks, Sonic Jesus, New Candys, etc.) have begun to flock to the club's black velvet curtains, as have big names from the Czech independent scene (Market, Johnny The Horse, 0...). It is also able to present the best from abroad, such as Viagra Boys, Motorama, or The Underground Youth, thanks to the collaboration with other promoters. In addition to the regular concerts and other events, the Garages have a table football and table tennis. Depending on the program and situation, both games can be accessed infrequently. The hall can be used for office parties or presentations. It is not possible to reserve the tables outside or the outside area.

  4. Dva Kohouti may appear haphazard at first glance, with its exposed tap system and raw walls dappled with graffiti. But delve a little deeper, and the method to their madness becomes clear. It's perplexing that such an establishment hasn't existed in Prague before, a collaboration between the trendy food conglomerate Ambiente and one of the Czech Republic's most well-known craft breweries Matuka. Dva Kohouti serves two functions: it is a taproom for Matuka beer, which has yet to have one despite its fame, and it is a training ground for Ambiente to become more serious about beer than Pilsner Urquell.

Lukr, a premier tap system maker specializing in all things lager, and Luká Svoboda, who has been pouring Pilsner on a world-famous level for years, designed their tap system. The pipes that bring the beer to the faucets are distinguishable from the back by three different colors of insulation, indicating the three different temperatures at which they serve their beer. Many international drinkers will attest that there is something truly remarkable about the best Czech lagers that is difficult to pin down. Two Czech hop varieties are used to achieve this remarkable bitterness, Saaz and Saaz Special, as well as Pilsner and Munich style malt (all from the Czech Republic), and a touch of raw barley for that added protein that supports such a remarkably frothy head.

The interior features exposed brickwork and banquette seating, with candles and chandeliers lighting the way.
