  1. Wine and Eggs ranks first in the list of best gourmet Mini-marts In L.A. This small neighborhood grocery and specialty shop in Atwater Village, just steps away from Morihiro, Dune, and Proof Bakery, has a little bit of (expensive, organic, small-produced) everything. Within its well-designed interiors, you'll find L.A. food favorites like Bub and Grandma's bread, frozen Woon dumplings, and a curated selection of reasonably priced and obviously, painstakingly artisan-made kitchen and home goods that make excellent housewarming gifts. Though esoteric natural wines take up the majority of the shop's space, Wine and Eggs also sells locally sourced produce, pantry items, and (duh) eggs.

They will open in beautiful Atwater Village, Los Angeles, California, in 2021. We're the neighborhood shop that everyone has been looking for! Check for natural and organic wine. Check out the spirits, beer, and beverages. Organic farmers market produce, fresh Bub and Grandma's bread, snacks and provisions: yes, we have it all, and it's all fantastic. We also have cookbooks, housewares, and fresh flowers. To put it another way, wine, eggs, and everything in between.

  2. Gratitude Market ranks 2nd in the list of best gourmet Mini-marts In L.A. This downtown Culver City art gallery converted to a specialty market and weekly food pantry in 2020, and it hasn't looked back since. While Gratitude Market still sells artisan jewelry, greeting cards, and ceramics, the shop now also sells a small but thoughtful selection of locally made fresh foods and shelf-stable pantry goods, ranging from Clark Street bakery favorites to ethically sourced spice blends, olive oils, and grains from around the world. A curated bottle selection from queer, BIPOC, and female winemakers near the back of the market completes the ideal Westside gourmet mini-mart for housewarming gifts and other upscale food needs.

A portion of each sale goes to shop owner Lisa Schultz's non-profit, the Peace Project, which helps combat food insecurity among Culver City families. The Peace Project began in 2010 with an International Call for Artists and traveling exhibit on TheWhole9.com. Since then, nearly 4,000 artists from 70 countries have shared their work and joined hearts with us to become a global force for good that demonstrates that "Art Changes People." People Influence the World." The Whole 9 Gallery's online shop and brick-and-mortar space in Culver City, CA, cover 100 percent of The Peace Project's operating expenses, leaving 100 percent of donations to be directed to our work.

  3. Sesame LA ranks 3rd in the list of best gourmet Mini-marts In L.A. Sesame LA is part nostalgic, part new-age, and is intended to preserve and accurately represent the current Asian-American identity through food. Sesame LA, a neighborhood superette occupying 250 square feet in the heart of LA's storied Chinatown, stocks an ever-rotating selection of provisions and artisanal pantry staples curated by owner Linda Sivrican, who focuses on small makers and AAPI brands while drawing inspiration from rich Pan-Asian culinary traditions.

Bottles of Spanish and Portuguese wines priced between $20 and $50 line this tiny space inside Bar Moruno, but Rápido's curated collection of Iberian tinned fish distinguishes this fun-size market from others nearby. Rápido bills itself as a one-stop shop for the perfect last-minute Spanish picnic at the Hollywood Bowl or the nearby Silver Lake Reservoir, but it also serves takeout sandwiches and a variety of rustic whole grain breads and bagels from wunderkind baker Jyan Isaac (Wed-Sun only). Inside the cold case, charcuterie salads, tapas-style salads and dips, and imported European cheese and charcuterie round out a selection designed to help Angelenos DIY their own simple but elegant meal centered on Spanish boquerones.

  4. Hi-Lo Liquor Market ranks 4th in the list of best gourmet Mini-marts In L.A. Hi-Lo is a Culver City neighborhood market and liquor store with a tasting room that focuses on American craft beer, whiskey, wine, spirits, and market goods. The emphasis at this upscale specialty liquor store with locations in Culver City and Long Beach is on locally made California wine, craft beer, and spirits, but we also love Hi-carefully Lo's curated selection of non-alcoholic drinks, artisan snacks, and specialty food items like cold-pressed juice, ethically produced chocolate, and even single serving plant-based yogurts. (There are also regular potato chips and soda.)

One-hour local delivery with no minimums to much of Los Angeles and Long Beach only sweetens the deal of shopping small for your at-home booze needs, but those who stop in—and stay subscribed to Hi-weekly Lo's newsletter—can also enjoy summer food truck pop-ups, free tasting events, and the in-person expertise of the shop's expert staff.

  5. Monsieur Marcel Gourmet Market ranks 5th in the list of best gourmet Mini-marts In L.A. Marcel Gourmet Market, Restaurant, and Seafood Market is a family-owned French-inspired restaurant, seafood market, specialty food and giftware store featuring a carefully curated selection of the world's finest gourmet foods, cheese and charcuterie, international and California wines, spices, chocolates, and imported artisanal cuisine ingredients. For nearly 25 years, Monsieur Marcel has been located at the Original Farmer's Market at Third and Fairfax. It includes a European café-style restaurant recently named one of the top French bistros in Los Angeles; a seafood market offering fresh, wild-caught seafood, shellfish, and caviar; and a satellite market located in Terminal 5 at Los Angeles International Airport. Monsieur Marcel has established itself as LA's premier gourmet foods destination for discerning customers ranging from international tourists, European locals, and food-savvy home chefs to professional caterers and private chefs.

While the Original Farmers Market lacks the seemingly de rigueur Millennial design cred of the other mini-marts on this list, it does have a dazzling array of upscale non-alcoholic drinks in its cold case, as well as cookies, chocolates, and small kitchen goods you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. Monsieur Marcel also sells high-quality wines, olive oils, pastas, and other gourmet imported fare, as well as counters selling first-rate cheese and wild caught seafood. Plus, the Farmers Market offers 90 minutes of free parking with vendor validation.
