  1. Lake Lugu was formerly a man-made deep hole, then turned into a fresh water lake. These days, the lake is one of the most beautiful and vibrant attractions in the region for its uniquely turquoise luster. The lake is open every day for both tourists and local residents, but it is most lively on the weekend when people do many fun water activities in the lake.

If you aren’t a swimmer or enjoy being in the water, you can enjoy the majestic view and nature around Lake Lugu. During weekdays, not many people come to the lake, so you will have a high chance to have the whole view for yourself, and take all the time you need to enjoy it. On the weekend, you can always camp there, sunbathe and relax with friends and loved ones. But if you are experienced on the water, you can participate in many activities from waddling and splashing around the lake, to paddle boarding, and soaking in the warm rays as you float atop the dreamy blue lake.

If you fancy somewhere with stunning turquoise water and calming atmosphere, lake Lugu is just the right place for you. After visiting the lake, you can always wander around to explore the beauty of the tropical forest.

  2. Lake Lalak is a natural lake in Mukim Labi, Brunei. The lake is located within the Labi Hills Forest Reserve as part of the Luagan Lalak Recreation Park - one of the most well-known natural parks in Brunei. This lake attracts tourists from within the country and from other countries as well with its charming beauty and calm surrounding.

Surrounding the lake is the beautiful papyrus plants. These plants give the lake its unique beauty, since these plants, especially in the summer and when the water level recedes, give lake Lalak a fascinating splendor. This lake is surrounded by trails designated for roaming, walking, and taking distinctive souvenir photos. There are three gazebos built across the reflective waters of Luagan Lalak, and as you walk along the wooden walkway, it feels as though you’re walking on the water’s mirror-like surface that reflects the open sky with all of its majesty.

Lake Lalak is a must-see spot in Brunei. It’s best to come on a clear day if you want to experience the famous sunrise, as the morning fog rolling across the trees can obscure a good view of the sun. Tourists are advised to leave Bandar by 4.45 am to catch the sunrise at 6 am.

  3. Lake Merimbun is the largest natural lake in Brunei at 2.2 square kilometers. The S-shaped lake is located 70 km from Brunei’s capital city and is surrounded by the 7800 - hectare Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park – another big and famous natural park in Brunei. This park with its majestic lake has been destinated as the eleventh ASEAN Heritage Park in 1984.

Aside from being the largest natural lake in all of Brunei, lake Merimbun is also known by the name “The black water lake” for its unique black water. The cause of the water's color is not pollution, but in fact, nature itself. The lake water's dark color is due to tannin that comes from leaves falling into the lake. As the leaves decay, tannins leach into the water forming transparent, acidic water that is darkly stained resembling tea or black coffee. This, alongside its diverse range of flora and fauna, make for an exciting trip for adventurous wildlife enthusiasts. Many birdwatchers come here to catch sightings of various exotic birds, making the lake one of the country’s top destinations for nature lovers and researchers.

Lake Merimbun is perfect for those who wish to make their next Brunei trip a memorable one, especially If they are interested in the rich culture and biodiversity of this country.
