  1. The Emirates Palace, located on Abu Dhabi's beachfront, is one of the most luxurious hotels in Abu Dhabi and a cultural center. Guests are only permitted to enter select areas of the hotel, such as the lobby, exhibitions, and outdoor spaces. If a stay at the 7-star hotel is not possible, the guided tour provides an opportunity to enjoy the hotel's pleasures.

The Emirates Palace is an iconic edifice in Abu Dhabi in the same manner that the Burj Khalifa is in Dubai. The property features fearless domed gatehouses, flying ramps to the vestibule, 114 domes, and a private beach with 1.3km of coastline. The palace's tall edifice was erected at a cost of AED 11 billion, and it exudes splendor with 1002 crystal chandeliers and 400 luxury rooms and suites. One does not need to stay at the hotel to enjoy its opulence because it serves as a cultural center for the city.

During the Abu Dhabi Classics concert season, the palace is well-known for holding operas and orchestras. It also hosts the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, which contributes to the city's cultural development. Additional attractions include the Barakat gallery, which displays magnificent arts from Egypt, China, Greece, Rome, and Africa; the famous afternoon high tea in the vestibule (AED 160); and a gold bar ATM.

  3. Step inside the iconic Louvre Abu Dhabi, the first universal museum in the Arab World, translating and fostering the spirit of openness between cultures. As one of the premier cultural institutions in the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District on Saadiyat Island, this art lovers’ dream displays works of historical, cultural and sociological significance from ancient times to the contemporary era.

The amazing edifice was inspired by the region's rich architectural traditions as well as the museum's unusual setting, where the Arabian sky meets the sands of Saadiyat Island and the waves of the Arabian Gulf. The Louvre Abu Dhabi, considered one of the world's modern urban wonders, is not only the Arab world's first worldwide museum, but also a potent symbol of the United Arab Emirates' ambition and achievement. To witness the grandeur of the museum in a unique way, it's highly recommended you kayak around the Louvre Abu Dhabi with tours that operate day and night.

The centerpiece of Nouvel's vision is a vast silvery dome that appears to float above the museum. Despite its apparent weightlessness, the dome weighs around 7,500 tons. That's around the same weight as the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Inspired by the cupola, a unique feature in Arabian architecture, Nouvel's dome is a complicated, geometric structure consisting of 7,850 stars. In eight separate layers, these stars appear in varied sizes and orientations. As the sun sets, the geometric design covers the museum with gorgeous shadows, projecting a spotted pattern on the ground known as the 'rain of light'.

  5. In a city like Abu Dhabi, where things are always changing, there are some areas where time seems to stand still. One of them is Qasr al-Hosn. The city's oldest existing structure is a towering figure surrounded by Abu Dhabi's gleaming cityscape, which is a wonderful contrast of the past and present when seen in person.

The royal family used to live in Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi, which was established in the 1790s. The building also housed the National Consultative Council, which was established by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE's founder. Walking into the Al Hosn fort, which was converted into a museum in 2018 after a decade of extensive conservation and highly careful repair work, is like entering a time capsule.

The Inner Fort, erected in 1795, and the Outer Palace, completed between 1939 and 1945, are the first prominent buildings you will encounter upon arriving. Gently raise your head and gaze up at the original watchtower. While Abu Dhabi was a small fishing village, Qasr Al Hosn guarded the coastal trade routes and defended the island's burgeoning community. Going around all of Qasr Al Hosn's areas is a lovely experience that makes you want to stay longer. You can easily spend a few hours learning about the fascinating history of the UAE capital or viewing artifacts and historical records dating back 6,000 years. And as for children, exploring the nooks and crannies of this ancient structure is sure to give them a sense of adventure and excellent material for storytime!

    • Masdar City mixes cutting-edge technologies with traditional Arab settlement design ideas to build a desert town that strives to be carbon neutral and waste-free. The 640-hectare project is a crucial component of Abu Dhabi's Masdar Initiative, which was designed to encourage the development of renewable energy and clean-technology solutions for a life after oil. With the goal of attracting the greatest levels of competence, the city will become a center for the advancement of new ideas for energy generation. The knowledge obtained here has already contributed in the development of Abu Dhabi's 'Estidama' sustainable building rating system.

Masdar City is a mixed-use, low-rise, high-density city that houses the International Renewable Energy Agency's offices as well as the recently finished Masdar Institute. Masdar is strategically positioned for Abu Dhabi's transportation infrastructure, with existing road and rail lines connecting it to neighboring settlements and the international airport. The city will be the world's first contemporary community to run without any fossil-fuelled automobiles on the streets. The city is built to encourage walking, with a maximum distance of 200 metres to the nearest rapid transport links and facilities, while its shaded streets and courtyards provide an attractive pedestrian environment protected from climate extremes. Wind and photovoltaic farms, research fields, and plantations will be built on the land surrounding the city, allowing the community to be completely self-sufficient in energy.

The development is divided into two sections that are connected by a linear park and is being built in stages, beginning with the larger sector. The masterplan is designed to be extremely adaptable, allowing it to capitalize on emerging technology and respond to lessons learned during the initial stages' execution. Growth was planned from the beginning, allowing for growth while avoiding the sprawl that plagues so many communities. While Masdar's architecture is tailored to its specific location and environment, the core principles are applicable anywhere in the world. In that sense, it provides a template for the future sustainable metropolis.
