The centerpiece of Nouvel's vision is a vast silvery dome that appears to float above the museum. Despite its apparent weightlessness, the dome weighs around 7,500 tons. That's around the same weight as the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Inspired by the cupola, a unique feature in Arabian architecture, Nouvel's dome is a complicated, geometric structure consisting of 7,850 stars. In eight separate layers, these stars appear in varied sizes and orientations. As the sun sets, the geometric design covers the museum with gorgeous shadows, projecting a spotted pattern on the ground known as the 'rain of light'.
