Blaine Kern traveled throughout Europe to learn from the world's best float and costume designers. Blaine was inspired by the extravagant concepts and animation that characterized the European style of float building during several trips to Italy, France, and Spain.

He took these concepts to New Orleans, where he created the massive scale and lavish ornamentation of today's spectacular Mardi Gras floats. Blaine Kern, known as "Mr. Mardi Gras," was instrumental in the early years of some of New Orleans' largest parades and "Super Krewes."

This venue truly has something for everyone, with a variety of venues to choose from, including the Grand Oaks Mansion, a full indoor replica of a Southern Plantation.

The Kerns decided to open up the working studio to the public after receiving numerous requests for private tours of Kern Studios from people wanting a sneak peek of Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras World was founded in 1984 as a tourist attraction to give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at their work. The name and logo were conceived during the early stages of the Coastal Plain Conservancy (CPC), a non-profit whose mission is to preserve the lands that define the distinctive landscape of the coastal plains. Tall native prairie grasses once covered Louisiana's southern plains. Long leaf pines were found all the way from Virginia to East Texas. Squirrels would be able to travel the expanse without ever touching the ground thanks to these pines. Wild bison roamed the area before man, but only for a short time. The Robson Cupples Plantation's commissary was the Old Country Store. In 2002, it was relocated to Hill Country Village. We don't have an exact construction date, but we believe this structure is over 100 years old. Inside, the flooring and shelving are original.
