    Russia

As of 2020, Russia has ranked first among the world's leading diamond-producing countries. Russia produces 23,000,000 carats of gem-quality diamonds annually, making it the world's greatest diamond producer. Since 2009, Russia has been the world's leading diamond producer. Where do the majority of diamonds originate? Let’s Toplist provides you with a very interesting fact about the diamond-producing industry: Russia currently generates 30% of the world's diamonds.

Since the 18th century, diamonds have been discovered in Russia. The Mir and Udachnaya pipelines in the Siberian Republic of Sakha have produced the majority of Russia's diamonds so far. Moreover, Russia is currently considered the world's biggest producer of gem-quality diamonds based on carat weight and has been for more than a decade.

  2. Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, formally known as the Republic of Botswana. Botswana was the world's second-largest diamond producer in 2020. Moreover, Botswana was a pioneer in bulk sampling, and one of the first to describe and detect diamond pipes over a broad and difficult geographic area. Botswana's first diamond reserves were discovered in 1966. Botswana's diamond production increased by 6% last year, the quickest rate of growth among the world's top ten diamond producers.

For more than a decade, Botswana has been considered the second-leading producer of diamonds in terms of a carat weight and the first in terms of value. It keeps this place because its average diamond size is greater and of higher quality than what Russia produces.

    Canada

You would not expect Canada to be at the top of the major diamond-producing countries when it comes to output. Canada is the newest diamond-producing country on this list. Geologists discovered diamond deposits in the Arctic region, and the country has since grown to become a major diamond producer. Leading diamond firms such as Rio Tinto, Dominion Diamond, De Beers, and Stornoway Diamonds operate important diamond mines in Canada, including Diavik, Ekati, and Gahcho Kué in the North West Territories, the Victor mine in Ontario, and the Renard mine in Quebec.

Consumers have been attracted to Canadian diamonds. Some people choose them because they are made in an atmosphere free of conflict, where workers are adequately compensated, and where environmental regulations are in place. By inscribing certificate numbers and trade emblems, Canadian diamond and jewelry makers have advertised their country's origin.

    Angola

Angola is a diamond-rich African country known for its vast diamond riches, which produced 8,500,000 carats of gem-quality diamonds in 2018. Angola began producing diamonds over a century ago when it was a Portuguese territory. Lucapa Diamond Company owns the Lulo Mine in Angola, which is well-known. Diamonds and oil are Angola's most valuable resources.

Angola has been one of the world's leading diamond producers in terms of dollar value and volume for more than a decade. Alluvial diamond mining will continue to be vital in Angola, and the discovery and exploitation of multiple diamond pipelines will make hard rock mining a significant addition to the country's output.

  5. South Africa is the home of the modern diamond industry. Prior to South Africa's entry into diamond production, the commodity was genuinely a rare gem, but it was made commonplace by South Africa. South Africa currently produces 7,700,000 carats of diamonds per year and is known for its valuable pink and blue diamonds. Despite being the world's first diamond producer, South Africa's diamond mines are now in decline, with only a few big deposits remaining. Despite this, diamonds are still mined in South Africa from alluvial deposits and pipes.

South Africa has been a reliable producer, producing a few million carats of gem-quality diamonds each year. Diamond pipes, which were first excavated in the 1800s, contribute to some of this output.

  6. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the next name on the list of the leading diamond-producing countries that Toplist would like to introduce to you. The Democratic Republic of Congo is the country that made diamond production profitable for South Africa.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is widely regarded as the world's richest country in terms of undiscovered resource wealth, with an estimated US $24 trillion in untapped mineral deposits, including the world's largest reserves of coltan (from which the elements niobium and tantalum are extracted) and significant quantities of cobalt and lithium. Today, the Democratic Republic of Congo produces 3,700,000 carats of diamonds. Aside from diamonds, the Democratic Republic of Congo is a major producer of cobalt, copper, tantalum, tin, and gold.

  7. Namibian diamond mining began more than a century ago, in 1908, and the country is now one of the world's leading diamond producers. Every year, Namibia produces 1,900,000 carats of diamonds.

Diamonds are being mined in water over 140 meters deep off the coast of Namibia's exclusive economic zone. As a result of these activities, Namibia is now the world's top underwater miner. These resources generate high-quality diamonds. They were worn from their source rock in Africa's interior, washed down rivers, deposited in the Atlantic Ocean, and then carried along the African coast by waves and longshore currents. Namdeb Diamond Corporation, a partnership owned in equal parts by the Government of Namibia and the De Beers Group of Companies, presently conducts the majority of diamond mining in Namibia.

  8. Toplist would like to introduce you to Lesotho as the next name on the list of the leading diamond-producing countries in the world. Lesotho is a small kingdom in South Africa, yet it is known for producing diamonds effectively and regularly. Lesotho is notable for operating the Letseng mine, which holds the global record for the highest average "dollar per carat" production of all kimberlite mines. Lesotho was expected to produce 1,100,000 carats of diamonds by 2020.

In addition, Lesotho's mining business is primarily focused on diamond mining, and as a result, the country's mining sector has played little role in the country's economic development. In addition to diamonds, base metals, clays, dimension stones, sand, gravel, and uranium have been identified as the country's principal mineral resources.

  9. Australia is another relatively new country on this list of the top leading diamond-producing countries. Australia began commercial diamond production in 1981 and soon rose through the ranks of the world's leading diamond producers. One of Western Australia's top mines is the new Argyle underground diamond mine. Annually, Australia produces 340,000 carats of diamonds.

Production in Australia has dropped dramatically in recent years due to the depletion of reserves and a lack of new discoveries to replace them. In Western Australia, Rio Tinto opened the new Argyle underground diamond mine in 2013. Since 1983, the Argyle open-pit mine has been a consistent producer of diamonds. In addition, it is also considered the world's biggest supplier of natural fancy-colored diamonds. Argyle's life should be extended until at least 2020 thanks to the underground mine.

  10. Tanzania is the final name that completes the list of the leading diamond-producing countries in the world. The Williamson Diamond Mine in Tanzania produces 260,000 carats of diamonds each year. The Williamson Diamond Mine is regarded as the world's first diamond mine.

Tanzania's diamond industry is centered on the Williamson diamond mine, which is located south of Mwanza in northwest Tanzania.
