10 Things I Hate About You
Gil Junger directed the romantic comedy film 10 Things I Hate About You in 1999. The script is a version of William Shakespeare's late-16th-century comedy The Taming of the Shrew, retold in a late-1990s American high school setting by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith. Cameron (Gordon-Levitt) is fascinated with Bianca (Oleynik) and, in order to get past her father's strict dating regulations, she convinces bad guy Patrick (Ledger) to date Bianca's irritable sister, Kat (Stiles). Kat wrote a poem about her bittersweet romance with Patrick, which inspired the film's title. The majority of the filming took place in the Seattle metro region, with numerous sequences shot at Tacoma's Stadium High School.
The film 10 Things I Hate About You, which was released on March 31, 1999, earned $60 million and received mostly good reviews from reviewers. Stiles, Ledger, and Gordon-Levitt all received nominations for several teen-oriented accolades for their performances in the film. The film was converted into a television series with the same title ten years later, which lasted twenty episodes and featured Larry Miller reprising his role as Walter Stratford from the film.
