Juno
Juno is a coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody that was released in 2007. Elliot Page plays the starring role, a self-assured adolescent who is confronted with an unanticipated pregnancy and the events that follow, which put adult life pressures on her. Filming took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, from early February to early March 2007. It had its world premiere on September 8, 2007, at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation.
Juno won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and was nominated for three other awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Page, who is just 20 years old (the fifth-youngest nominee in the category). Juno was well-received by reviewers, with several including it in their top-ten lists for the year. Members of both the anti-abortion and pro-abortion sectors have criticized and praised it for its treatment of abortion.
