Air Force One
The official call sign for a United States Air Force aircraft carrying the president of the United States is Air Force One. The word is commonly used to refer to US Air Force aircraft modified and used to carry the president, as well as a metonym for the primary presidential aircraft, the VC-25, though it can also apply to any Air Force aircraft on which the president flies.
During World War II, military advisors in the War Department were concerned about the risk of utilizing commercial airlines to transport the president. They came up with the notion of designating specific military aircraft to transport the president.
Air Force One is the world's most costly private plane, with not just a nice bedroom and offices, but also an on-board medical center and a conference room. The galley on this 800,000-pound 747 has 4000 square feet of area and can prepare up to 2000 meals per trip, feeding 100 people at a time. Its innovative technology system protects all equipment from electromagnetic pulses and allows it to refuel in mid-flight.
