Alpha Group, Russia
Directorate "A" of the FSB Special Purpose Center is the official name of the Russian special forces unit known as the Alpha Group (TsSN FSB). This organization's primary goal is to combat terrorism by preventing and retaliating to violent incidents on public transit and in buildings. Nine Alpha officers have received the honor of being recognized as Russian Federation heroes as of 2018. The unit has already completed several significant tasks for the Russian Federation government.
The Alpha Group is the most vicious in their organization and is an arm of the well-known and feared Spetsnaz. Beginning in the middle of the 1970s, this well-known task force first gained notoriety during the invasion of Afghanistan. They are renowned for their ruthless defeat of the opposition and brutal revenge.
When the FSB's Alpha Group deployed chemical gas to subdue militants during the Moscow theater hostage crisis in 2002, 129 hostages were killed as a result of collateral damage.
