American International School of Lusaka
The American International School of Lusaka, or AISL, is a well-established international School in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia. It started in 1986 and is a school for boys and girls ages 3 to 18. Around 400 students attend AISL, and international education associations recognize it in the United States and the United Kingdom.
AISL is unique because it has students from many different countries—26% from Europe, 31% from North and South America, and 28% from Africa. This mix of students influences the school's classes and activities. AISL is one of the few schools in Africa authorized by the International Baccalaureate (IB) to offer three programs: the Primary Years Program (PYP), the Middle Years Program (MYP), and the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
The school's campus is extensive, covering 25 acres, and it has modern buildings like classrooms, science labs, offices, and meeting spaces. There's also a library, a 400-seat theater, an indoor gym, an outdoor covered gym, three swimming pools, athletic fields, multi-sport courts, a hall for various activities, and maintenance buildings. AISL recently finished the second of three planned projects to improve the school. These projects aim to improve educational spaces, make the school safer, create community areas, manage traffic and parking, and protect green spaces.
Teachers from different countries work hard to challenge students in their studies while caring about their health and feelings. AISL also works with parents to help students appreciate and understand Zambia and celebrate the school's diverse cultures of more than 40 nationalities. The leaders of tomorrow in diplomacy, business, education, and science are studying at AISL today.
