International School of Lusaka
Founded in 1963, the International School of Lusaka (ISL) is an international school in Ridgeway, Zambia. It's like an American school covering preschool through 12th grade, offering IGCSE/IB Diploma/ISL diploma courses. In 2015, the school had 700 students from 60 countries. ISL is dedicated to creating globally-minded citizens who want to improve the world.
ISL aims to build a united community based on mutual respect and understanding. They want everyone to feel welcome, safe, included, and valued. Through internationally accredited educational programs, ISL wants all students to love learning genuinely and believe that education is a lifelong journey without limits. The school doesn't align with any political or religious beliefs.
ISL is a not-for-profit association run by a Board of Governors consisting of nine parents of current students. Parents, who are voting members, and teachers and their families, who are non-voting members, elect the members. The Head of School is a non-voting member of the Board.
Students at ISL start with the IB Primary Years Programme, an inquiry-based curriculum, and finish with the IB Diploma Programme, a challenging university preparation course. The diverse backgrounds of students and staff create a strong foundation for international education.
ISL intentionally hires teachers worldwide to provide unique and diverse learning experiences. All teachers are trained in IB (PYP, DP), Cambridge (IGCSE), and the International Curriculum Association (IMYC). The school believes in continuous learning for students and teachers, and all teaching staff participate in annual Professional Development Programmes to enhance their professional and interpersonal skills.
