American International School of Mozambique
The American International School of Mozambique (AISM) has grown significantly in the last 33 years. With over 515 students from more than 70 different countries, the school today has a diverse student body. A committed group of more than 90 experienced instructors and staff members serves as their mentor and source of support.
Providing a comprehensive US-style college preparatory program from Early Learning Center (ELC) through grade 12, AISM is an IB World School. The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited AISM, and the US State Department Office of Overseas Schools has acknowledged and supported the institution.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, Middle Years Program (MYP), and Primary Years Program (PYP) are all authorized to be offered by AISM. Most instruction is given in English, and the school uses the academic calendar of the northern hemisphere, with classes starting in mid-August and ending in mid-June.
The MYP and PYP for ELC-10 and the requirements and philosophical underpinnings of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Grades 11–12 are the main subjects of the curriculum at AISM.
Aimed at encouraging an inquiry-based learning culture, the American International School of Mozambique offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB). AISM's PYP curriculum accomplishes this by fostering innate curiosity, skillfully integrating subjects, encouraging global awareness, making use of technology and libraries, and developing a feeling of civic duty.
To enhance the educational experience, AISM provides specialized programs in the visual arts, performing arts, physical education, and Portuguese language.
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is an educational path that develops engaged, empathetic, and purposeful students while also being globally aware. MYP encourages creativity, critical thinking, and introspection by giving students the freedom to investigate regional, national, and international issues.
The Grade 10 Personal Project is the ultimate goal, motivating students to work hard and thoughtfully for a long time. With its eight subject groups, the MYP curriculum encourages interdisciplinary learning, which helps students understand the connections between different subjects and acquire critical skills for a globalized society.
The IB Diploma Programme (IB DP) provides a life-changing education that shapes students into responsible global citizens, compassionate leaders, and critical thinkers. It prepares students for international universities and is intended for grades 11 and 12.
Three essential components make up the core: the Extended Essay (EE) for in-depth analysis, the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) for critical thinking, and the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) for community involvement and personal development.
