American University of Kuwait
The American University of Kuwait is a private liberal arts institution in Kuwait that follows the American model of higher education. Despite being founded in 2003, the University did not open to students, faculty, or the general public until September 2004. It shares a campus with Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Professor Dr. Rawda Awwad currently holds the position of President.
The AUK Campus is in Salmiya, one of Kuwait's most cosmopolitan neighborhoods. The campus features large, modern classrooms, computer, science, and language laboratories, an administration building, a cutting-edge library, and cafes, restaurants, shops, and recreation courts.
To ensure the safety of its community, AUK provides 24-hour security service. Tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, as well as a soccer field and fitness center, are available as athletic facilities. On campus, there are separate prayer rooms for men and women.
Professors from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Kuwait, among other places, teach at the American University of Kuwait. In addition, unlike other universities, AUK has a Student Worker Program in which students are hired in various departments to perform tasks ranging from administrative work to assisting in the development of departmental missions.
