Kuwait University (abbreviated as Kuniv) is a public university in Kuwait City. Kuwait University (KU) was founded in October 1966 by Act No. 29/1966. The university was officially founded on November 27, 1966, with the College of Science, College of Arts, College of Education, and College for Women as its constituent colleges. The university is the state's first public higher education and research institution.
The university's mission is to preserve and transmit knowledge through scholarship, as well as to encourage innovation and development in the arts and sciences. It is made up of 17 colleges that offer 76 undergraduate and 71 graduate programs.
Kuwait University has six campuses and offers programs in the sciences, engineering, humanities, medicine, and social sciences. Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees are awarded to students. The Kuwait Global Technopreneurship Challenge was held in November 2015 by the university (KGTC). The university's six campuses are Adailiya, Shuwaikh, Keifan, Khaldiya, Fintas, and Jabriya. They are only a few minutes from downtown Kuwait City. Jamal Abdul Nassar Street, the main entrance to the Shuwaikh campus, overlooks the Persian Gulf. Kuwait University opened a new 490-hectare (1,211-acre) Shadadiyah campus in 2019. It will bring together six different campuses that are currently scattered throughout Kuwait City.
