Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was founded in 1920 by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, who elevated the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College to the status of one of India's most prominent institutions. The institution, which is located on 1155 acres in Aligarh City, Uttar Pradesh, India, offers 156 disciplines and has students from all across the country as well as Asia and Africa. AMU is rated as one of the top 20 research universities in India and has the reputation of being a national and international university of excellence. With a student population of over 28000 students, 1342 instructors, and over 5600 non-teaching personnel, the institution has stretched its educational wings throughout 12 faculties and 98 teaching departments.

The AMU features 19 halls of residence and 80 hostels, which is a distinguishing feature of the residential character for the majority of students. The University offers programs of study at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, beginning with social sciences, arts, and sciences, and has expanded its offerings to include engineering, dentistry history, Islamic studies, computer science, and cultural studies. The AMU also has various learning centers linked with the main Aligarh campus, as well as schools across the city for both elementary and secondary school levels of study for both boys and girls. Aligarh Muslim University Scholarships are awarded to students who have strong academic credentials as well as financial restrictions. The University assumes the responsibility of seeking government and non-government sources of financing for scholarships. Donor Scholarships, Saifi Trust Scholarships, Bharat Sewa Scholarships, UP Government Scholarships, and Arab Republic of Egypt Scholarships are among the Aligarh Muslim University scholarships available.
