Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was founded in 1920 by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, who elevated the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College to the status of one of India's most prominent institutions. The institution, which is located on 1155 acres in Aligarh City, Uttar Pradesh, India, offers 156 disciplines and has students from all across the country as well as Asia and Africa. AMU is rated as one of the top 20 research universities in India and has the reputation of being a national and international university of excellence.
