Argentina
Argentina's legal name is the Argentine Republic, which is a country in the south of South America and covers an area of 2,780,400 square kilometers or 1,073,500 sq mi. Argentina is considered the second-largest country in South America after Brazil, the fourth-largest country in the Americas, and the eighth-largest country in the world. Argentina is a federal-state subdivided into twenty-three provinces, and one autonomous city, which is the federal capital and largest city of the nation named Buenos Aires. In addition, Argentina has also claimed sovereignty over a part of Antarctica, the Falkland Islands and South Georgia, and the South Sandwich Islands.
Today, Argentina is enjoying relative peace and stability, receiving several waves of European immigration, mainly Italians and Spaniards. Over 60% of the population of Argentina has full or partial Italian ancestry, therefore the culture of Argentina is closely associated with Italian culture.
Argentina is a developed country of South America that ranks 46th in the Human Development Index and the second-highest in Latin America only after Chile. Argentina is also known as a member of G-15 and G20 and is a founding member of the United Nations, World Bank, World Trade Organization, Mercosur, Community of Latin American and the Caribbean States, and the Organization of Ibero-American States.
