On September 4, 2020, Season 1 aired. Netflix canceled the show after one season on October 19, 2020.

The TV show portrays the sacrifices a global team of astronauts must make as they get ready to spend three years apart from their loved ones on the first crewed space mission to Mars. The main star of the space drama Away is Hilary Swank. She portrays NASA astronaut Emma Green, the leader of a trip to Mars. As things get off to a rocky start, her multicultural team starts to doubt her leadership skills.The series is described as being "about hope, humanity and how ultimately, we need one another if we are to achieve impossible things".
