BAE Systems plc
BAE Systems plc (BAE) is a multinational British arms, security, and aerospace company headquartered in London, England. It is Europe's largest defense contractor and the world's seventh-largest based on relevant 2021 revenues. It is the largest manufacturer in the United Kingdom as of 2017. Its most important operations are in the United Kingdom and the United States, where its subsidiary BAE Systems Inc. is one of the six top suppliers to the US Department of Defense. Other significant markets include Australia, Canada, Japan, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Oman, and Sweden, where Saudi Arabia is consistently one of the top three income generators.
British Aerospace, a manufacturer of aircraft, munitions, and naval systems, formed the company on November 30, 1999, by purchasing and merging with Marconi Electronic Systems (MES), a defence electronics and naval shipbuilding subsidiary of General Electric Company plc (GEC). BAE is now the parent company of several aviation, shipbuilding, armored vehicle, munitions, and defense electronics industries.
