Bishop’s College School, which was founded in 1836, has a strong tradition of preparing students in grades 7 through 12 for university and beyond. The fundamental values (Lead, Grow, Engage, Experience, and Explore) define students' personal and intellectual adventures. It learns together in a diverse, welcoming community where everyone contributes to the BCS family.
The school's mission and values heavily impact the approach to teaching and learning. These drive program execution as well as constant curriculum review to ensure that students are prepared for an ever-changing world. Students engage in academic and co-curricular activities on and off campus that help them develop into caring, principled leaders.
Students at BCS learn in a vibrant, multicultural, collaborative atmosphere. With a small average class size, students receive plenty of individualized attention and assistance through a structured curriculum that balances the development of competencies, concepts, and learning styles. Students cultivate a love of studying as well as academic confidence in order to succeed in the various roles they will play in global society.
The organized boarding program prepares students for university by encouraging independence and personal responsibility. The seven-day boarding program is attended by approximately 85% of students. Assistant houseparents and residence assistants assist boarding houseparents.
Common rooms, internet access, TVs, and kitchens stocked with healthful snacks are available in the houses, and students can cook and bake at night or on weekends. Each house also has its own tuck shop where students may buy sweets with the earnings going into the house's activities fund.
With such a large boarding population, boarding life is an essential aspect of the BCS experience, and the social hub is present at Bishop’s College School all weekend. The 250-acre campus, located in the center of the Eastern Townships, is a magnificent blend of urban and rural elements. Hiking, biking, running, cross-country skiing routes, and a river for fishing are all within walking distance of campus.
