Bogibeel Bridge
The Bogibeel River Bridge is the longest rail-cum-road bridge in India, measuring 4.94 kilometers over the Brahmaputra River. It is located in the northeastern Indian state of Assam between the districts of Dhemaji and Dibrugarh. Construction on the bridge began in 2002 and it was finished in 200 months. It is the first bridge in India to have fully welded steel-concrete support beams that can resist earthquakes with a Richter magnitude of up to 7, as it is located in an earthquake-prone area. It is the second-longest rail-to-road bridge in Asia and has a 120-year operational life.
After the Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Dibang River Bridge, Bhupen Hazarika Setu, and Bandra-Worli Sea Link, it is the fifth-longest bridge in India. A group of construction firms under the leadership of Hindustan Construction Company built the bridge. On the lower deck of the bridge, there is a double rail line, while on the upper deck there is a three-lane road. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 December 2018 on the occasion of Good Governance Day.
