Vembanad Rail Bridge
Vembanad Rail Bridge is a rail connecting Edappally and Vallarpadam in Kochi, Kerala. With a total length of 4,620 meters, it is the second longest railway bridge in India. After a period of disuse, freight service was relaunched in January 2020. The bridge was built beginning in June 2007 and was finished on March 31, 2010. Train Vikas Nigam Ltd., a Chennai PIU, Government of India Enterprise, constructed the rail bridge (RVNL). Afcons Infrastructure raised the bridge with a length of 4.62 km.
The bridge has each rafter 220 tonnes and the total quantity of girders at hand is 231. Vembanad Rail Bridge positioned on the Vembanad Lake of Kochi in Kerela is used to fuse Edappally with Vallarpadam. The connection between Edapally and Vallarpadam begins in Edapally and travels 3 km along a current track until it reaches Vaduthala. In order to go to Vallarpadam, the train line then crosses the Vembanad Bridge and 3 tiny islands, including the Idyakkara and Mulavukad islands in Vembanad Lake. 80 percent of the bridge is built above water.
