Box Canyon Falls
In the little mountain hamlet of Ouray, one of the state's most impressive waterfalls may be found in a visually spectacular box canyon. They are appropriately known as Box Canyon Falls and drop 280 feet while roaring loudly. Box Canyon Falls Park, which features a modest visitor center, is located in the southwest corner of Ouray and has three entry points to the falls: a staircase, a brief hiking trail, and a suspension bridge.
The lower trail leads directly into the heart of the falls after a 500-foot stroll along a footbridge and suspension bridge. It is an experience in and of itself to hear thousands of gallons of water flowing past you. To experience the falls' power from the top, a short yet inclining climb can be taken from the visitor center to a bridge above them. Visitors can take in the cascading water while viewing the falls from the top or bottom. For those seeking more adventure, there are adjacent hiking trails, and a tourist center offers information on the geology and history of the town.
