Brightpoint Community College – Funeral Service Program

Brightpoint Community College is next on the list of the best online mortician schools. This program has been in operation for nearly four decades. It is one of just two programs in the state that follow this model.

There are only two funeral services programs in Virginia, and Brightpoint's has been running for more than 45 years. Due to the lack of options in the Commonwealth for funeral studies, the college's curriculum is designed to accommodate students who could be working while enrolled and traveling for classes.

The curriculum will cover a variety of topics, including how to run a funeral home and build connections with the families of the departed. Students will also learn to comprehend burial and cremation protocols, exhibit technical proficiency in embalming and restorative arts, and exhibit moral behavior. The Chester campus is the only one that provides this degree.

Five academic years are required to complete the Bachelor of Applied Science degree requirements, which can be obtained upon graduation. During their studies, students learn about embalming and gain a comprehensive understanding of every aspect of funeral services.

For full-time students, the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree is a career-technical major that can be completed in two years. Even though obtaining job skills is the main objective of an AAS degree, some transfer institutions may accept all or some of the courses from an AAS major. After earning this degree, students are eligible to take the national board test, which is necessary to become a licensed funeral director.

Students must submit both a regular Brightpoint Community College application and an application to the Funeral Services Program during the application process.
