Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service
The Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service, located in Houston, Texas, offers two programs to students: the Associate of Applied Science Degree and the Certificate in Funeral Directing. For those who desire to work as funeral directors and embalmers, the associate degree program is excellent as it covers all the aspects of both tasks.
Because the curriculum requires national certification, it is designed for students who wish to practice exclusively in Texas. You can enroll in either program entirely online or on campus.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Funeral Service (A.A.S.) program aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and abilities to function as embalmers and funeral directors. Graduates will be qualified to embalm, preserve, and restore human remains for use in ceremonies, final disposition, and viewing after finishing this program.
They will gain knowledge on how to lead different funeral rituals. Additionally, they will be capable of managing funerary affairs and planning family funerals. They can also organize the necessary paperwork for the funeral home and be aware of the proper safety procedures for funeral care personnel at work.
The Associate of Applied Science degree can be earned online if the student so chooses. The courses taken through this option have the same academic period, length, demanding material, and admission requirements as courses offered on campus.
Students who finish the funeral service arts college-level curriculum are awarded the Certificate in Funeral Directing. It is intended to give students the necessary skills and competencies for employment as a funeral director. It is the responsibility of the students to confirm that the state in which they are seeking licensing recognizes the Certificate program.
