Cats

Cats are one of the predators of rats that eat rats. Although some domestic cats will take on a rat, most domestic cats prefer to hunt mice. According to legend, the American Shorthair and the Maine Coon are both descendants of ship cats that made their living by eliminating rodent infestations. Feral cats are sometimes used by towns to hunt vermin.

However, compared to their domestic counterparts, bobcats (Lynx rufus) are more inclined to hunt rodents. There are thirteen different subspecies of bobcat, and they are widespread in most of Mexico and the United States. Bobcats can live in wetlands, farms, and even towns, though they prefer the woods. They are adaptive animals. While rats are their preferred tiny prey, bobcats may often pursue larger wildlife, such as deer, if they are in short supply. Bobcats have been observed killing animals that are eight times their own size. Depending on the size of their target, they alter their hunting strategies. The bobcat will lay in wait for tiny creatures like rats, for instance, and pounce on the first unlucky or reckless rat that comes too close to it. After then, the bobcat will seize the rat with its razor-sharp claws.
