Cougars (Puma Concolor)

The Cougar is a member of the feline family that is native to the Americas, like the Bobcat, although it is roughly 1.5 to 2 feet bigger. Due to their generalist diet and high level of adaptability, they have an ever-increasing population within the boundaries of their ecological area.

Cougars are among the most nimble felids and have rounded heads and upright ears. In order to hold larger prey, they rely on their retractable claws, strong jaws, neck, and forequarters. The average weight of cougars is 68 kg for males and 55 kg for females, despite the fact that both sexes appear to be rather similar in appearance.

The cougars' diet can include everything from tiny insects to massive ungulates since they are generalist predators. They eat mostly badgers, coyotes, mule and white-tailed deer, moose, horses, elks, bighorn sheep, and pronghorns. Although rats and other rodents are not their preferred food, cougars will nevertheless eat them if they are captured. Cougars are ambush predators that pounce on their prey. Like the other great cats, they kill their little prey relatively instantaneously by biting the necks of their victims. When there is not enough food available, cougars may happily pounce on a helpless rat for a fast snack.
