Weasels

Rats can naturally be eaten by weasels. They are in the same genus (Mustela) as ferrets and minks and are related to wolverines, otters, and badgers in the same family (Mustelid). Despite the fact that the length of each weasel species varies (between 6 and 8 inches), all of them have hair that is red or brown in color with a white underbelly. The long, narrow body and tiny head of the weasel make them perfect for pushing their way into the caverns of any ground-dwelling animal. Weasels tend to feed a lot in order to stay warm since they lose heat rather fast.

The Arctic, Europe, Asia, and North America, including the northern US, are all home to the short-tailed weasel, also known as the stoat, which has the widest range of any weasel. The long-tailed weasel (M. frenata) is a common animal across the majority of the United States, Central America, and even certain regions of Canada and South America. Weasels are nocturnal animals like owls, therefore they prey when rats are foraging. Weasels kill their victim by biting it on the neck repeatedly. Weasels will consume mice, rabbits, voles, birds, frogs, and bird eggs in addition to rats. Weasels can pursue prey in confined areas thanks to their slender bodies.

Rats are common and breed very quickly. Because of this, they provide the perfect fresh food for a hungry weasel. It is the main factor that makes rats and mice the ideal prey for weasels. Due to their capacity to aid in the management of rat and mouse populations, weasels are extremely beneficial to farmers.
