Copa America

The Copa América (English: America Cup) or CONMEBOL Copa América, previously known as the South American Football Championship (Campeonato Sudamericano de Ftbol in Spanish and Copa Sul-Americana de Futebol in Portuguese) until 1975, is the premier men's football tournament contested by South American national teams. It is the oldest continuously running continental football competition, as well as the world's third most-watched. The competition decides South America's champions.


The South American Football Championship is the oldest international continental football competition. Copa America features twelve teams competing at various venues over the course of one month. Since 1993, Mexico, Costa Rica, and the United States have competed in Copa America on a regular basis. Uruguay is the most successful Copa America squad, having won it 15 times, the most recent in 2011.


Two trophies, Copa America and Copa Bolivia are given at the end of the tournament to the winners and the runner ups respectively. In 2015, it was held in Chile and the host country emerged as the winner whereas Argentina got the trophy of the runner-up. The tournament was held in Brazil in 2019, and Ecuador will host it in 2023.
