On June 15, 2015, the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, received an order from the Carnival Corporation for four 180,000 gross-ton LNG-fueled cruise ships, one of which would be built for Costa. On October 7, 2019, the ship began a set of sea trials. On November 16, 2019, a different set of sea trials got under way. They were successfully finished shortly after.
The ship was built by Meyer Turku with assistance from Neptun Werft, a sister yard, which provided a section holding the ship's primary and auxiliary machinery and related systems.
