Criollo Latin Kitchen
Many restaurants serve Latin flavors or Latin fusion cuisine, but none do it quite like Criollo Latin Kitchen. Taking fresh local ingredients and infusing them with Latin passion is no easy task, but Criolla pulls it off with ease with each dish. Dishes from all throughout South and Central America, from Haiti to Brazil, are featured on the menu.
During the week, Criollo Latin Kitchen serves lunch and dinner, but on weekends, the menu expands to include blue corn pancakes and pork belly tacos, as well as poblano cheddar grits, sweet ancho chili sausage gravy, and Haitian 'ti-malice'-inspired relish to accompany eggs over easy. Along with the monthly changing paintings, the food is "local" as well—the menu and the chalkboard on the wall will tell you which ranches and farms in Arizona and Colorado provide Criollo's organic ingredients.
Criollo is worth a stop even if you're only passing through Flagstaff on your way to the Grand Canyon or travelling from Albuquerque to Los Angeles. It's within a block north of downtown's historic old Route 66. (Criollo is owned by the same people that established the nationally acclaimed "Brix" just up the street—Flagstaff is quickly becoming a dining destination—and its newest sister restaurant, "Proper," is just down the road in Tucson.) Evenings with cheap margaritas on "Taco Tuesday" can be busy.)
