Currency & Bargaining
The island's currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$). Hotels, vehicle rental agencies, stores, and restaurants all take Visa, American Express, and MasterCard. Many tourist services, such as lodging, activities, excursions, and car rentals, are quoted in US dollars and can be paid in US dollars. However, you can pay in EC dollars or with a major credit card for the equivalent amount. ATMs can be found at bank branches and shopping malls all throughout the island. They give out dollars from the Eastern Caribbean.
Bargaining is hardly common in St Lucia, except at markets and streetside booths. On lengthier cab rides, you may be able to haggle a little. It is also not unheard of to ask for a discount in the pricey duty-free shopping centers.
The Eastern Caribbean dollar is fixed at a rate of 2.70 to 1 against the US dollar. (US$1=EC$2.70). Keep reading to know more interesting things about Saint Lucia.
