Des Williams

Des Williams was Chairman of the Werksmans Attorneys from 2005 to February 2015. He has been with the company since 1974 and led the litigation department from 1994 to 2005. He currently leads the company's Arbitration Working Group. He has experience in all areas of commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution, including international litigation, arbitration and mediation. He has participated in many of the largest and most complex litigation and arbitration cases in South Africa.

Des is recognized by Chambers Global: World's Leading Lawyers for Business for her dispute resolution experience. Appears in the 2016 edition for both dispute resolution and composition. He was named one of the world's best arbitration practitioners by the International Who's Who of Commercial Arbitration, 2016. He has also been named Best Lawyers in Arbitration and Arbitration, Construction and Litigation by Best Lawyers International. Des is a South African member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Arbitration Tribunal, President of the South African ICC Council, former Co-Chairman of the International Bar Association (IBA) Judicial Committee and a former member of the Council. Des received her Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws degrees from the University of Witwatersrand, as well as graduate degrees in Corporate Law and Taxation.
