Embracer Group
The Karlstad, Sweden-based Embracer Group AB is a media and video game holding firm formerly known as Nordic Games Licensing AB and THQ Nordic AB. Nordic Games Licensing was founded in 2011 as the parent business of Nordic Games GmbH and a subsidiary of Nordic Games Group.
The company began acquiring assets from failed publishers in 2011, with JoWooD, and continued with THQ in 2013. Using the "THQ" trademark it had purchased in 2014, Nordic Games Licensing and its publishing subsidiary changed their identities in August 2016 to THQ Nordic AB and THQ Nordic GmbH. It went public on Nasdaq First North in November of 2016.
In 2018, THQ Nordic purchased Koch Media Holding (the parent company of Koch Media) and Coffee Stain Holding (the parent company of Coffee Stain Studios), all of which are now separate but complementary divisions inside THQ Nordic. THQ Nordic AB changed its name to Embracer Group in September 2019 to distinguish itself as a holding company from THQ Nordic GmbH, which kept its original name.
Amplifier Game Invest, Asmodee, CDE Entertainment, Coffee Stain Holding, Dark Horse Media, DECA Games, Easybrain, Embracer Freemode, Gearbox Entertainment, Plaion, Saber Interactive, and THQ Nordic are only a few of Embracer Group's twelve direct subsidiaries as of August 2022. Separate businesses, affiliates, and research and development facilities make up each organization.
