Feminism and Social Justice

This course will teach you about feminism as a #Metoo Movement and a force for social change. You will collaborate with your classmates on various assignments and have discussions about the purpose and meaning of feminism. The course covers significant events in the history of feminism, ranging from the groundbreaking 1951 strikes against the Empire Zinc Company in New Mexico to the global #Metoo movement.


You will learn about the causes and consequences of the movement, as well as its contribution to feminism and social justice. You will also have the opportunity to discuss recent changes brought about by the #Metoo movement with your fellow students.


Dr. Aptheker Bettina, a distinguished professor in the Feminist Studies department at the University of California, Santa Cruz, teaches the course. She is a scholar-activist who is currently involved in anti-racist work and speaks frequently about the #metoo movement.
