Festivals
Those who are fortunate enough to be in Suriname at the proper moment can take advantage of a variety of Suriname holidays and festivals. There is plenty to keep everyone entertained, whether they are interested in events exhibiting the country's cultural skills, such as the National Art Exhibition, or just searching for ways to enjoy life and have a good time, as illustrated during Pagara Estafette.
The Brazilian Carnival kicks off the festival season in February. Despite the fact that the Surinamese did not initiate the Carnival custom, it has become an annual celebration. This is mostly owing to Suriname's significant Brazilian community, which has relocated there yet is determined to preserve its own culture.
The International Film Festival, which takes place every year in April in the capital city, is one of the most anticipated events of the year. The annual Staatsolie Swim Marathon, an 11-mile open water, long distance event along the vast Suriname River, takes place in July. Domburg is the starting point, while Paramaribo is the finish line.
