Fredric Snitzer Gallery
Fredric Snitzer is more than just a merchant; he has long served as a mentor to Miami artists. His warehouse is the focal point of the Wynwood scene, and his roster includes members of Cuba's legendary '80s Generation (particularly José Bedia), recent graduates of Miami's New World School of the Arts, and local talents such as Hernan Bas.
For almost 40 years, Fredric Snitzer Gallery has been a pioneer in the South Florida contemporary art market. The gallery, which is dedicated to exhibiting work in various mediums by a varied spectrum of contemporary artists, has maintained a strict schedule that includes at least eight rotating shows by its artists each year.
Fredric Snitzer built his first gallery on Biltmore Way in Coral Gables in 1977, followed by locations on North Ponce de Leon, Bird Road, and Wynwood. Fredric Snitzer Gallery moved to the Arts & Entertainment District near Downtown Miami in 2014. The present gallery area features a 3,000-square-foot interior exhibition space separated into two galleries, as well as a 2,600-square-foot outdoor sculpture garden.
The Fredric Snitzer Gallery was a pioneer in promoting modern Latin American art in the United States. In-depth presentations by Cuban artists such as Carlos Alfonzo, Mara Martnez-Caas, Tomás Esson, and José Bedia have been displayed at the gallery. Cuban avant-garde artists have a major presence on the gallery's roster. The gallery's program is now diversified, with an emphasis on recognizing and nurturing the careers of new, emerging artists while also displaying established work by mid-career artists on a local and worldwide scale.
