Frozen 2
Frozen 2 is a 2019 American computer-animated musical fantasy film, the 58th film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and the sequel to Frozen (2013). Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, written by Lee and produced by Peter Del Vecho, the film stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff. Frozen 2 is set three years after the release of the first movie. Sister Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven the reindeer, and Olaf the snowman go to the Enchanted Forest to uncover the source of Elsa's magic.
The film was approved in March 2015 after company discussions over whether it would be perceived as inferior to the original. It used more sophisticated and advanced animation techniques than Frozen, and it was a collaboration between departments. Christine Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez returned as composers, and Christoph Beck took over again. The film has been translated into 46 languages and was accompanied by the documentary series Into Unknown: Making of Frozen II.
Frozen II premiered in Los Angeles on November 7, 2019, and was released in the United States on November 22, 2019. The film received generally positive reviews for its craftsmanship, presentation and subject matter. The storytelling and directing were criticized, but the music received mixed reactions. Frozen 2 closed as the third-highest-grossing film of 2019, the 10th highest-grossing film of all time, and the second-highest-grossing animated film of all time, grossing $1.45 billion worldwide. It was the world's highest-grossing animated film of all time. Frozen 2 has been nominated for several awards and nominations, including two Annie Awards, two BAFTA nominations, two Golden Globes and two Grammys. At the 92nd Academy Awards, Into Unknown was nominated for Best Original Song.
