Go wine tasting in the Central Valley

Chile is well-known for its wine. Delicacies like Malbec and Carménère have won the hearts of wine enthusiasts all around the world. If you are a wine enthusiast, you should visit some of the valley's local vineyards for a tour and an excellent wine tasting. If that doesn't quench your thirst, try one of Chile's five wine regions!

When the Image of Chile Foundation conducted a global study to determine what the country was best recognized for overseas, the result was unequivocal: wine! The greatest bottles are never exported, so taste-test the good stuff that you won't find in your local wine shop at the magnificent vineyards surrounding Santiago. Three hours south of Santiago, the historic Colchagua Valley is your best chance for strong reds like Carmenere (Chile's hallmark grape), made at lovely vineyards like MontGras, where you can select and stomp your own grapes. The Casablanca Valley, about an hour west of the city, is known for its crisp Sauvignon blancs. Plan your vacation around the grape harvest in March and April, when wine-growing regions stage vibrant celebrations to honor the new crop.
