Visit Isla Magdalena and play with the Penguins
Is there anything cuter than an island teeming with penguins? Isla Magdalena brings this heartwarming scene to life. Isla Magdalena (or Magdalena Island in English) is the primary portion of the Penguins Natural Monument and is located on the Chilean side of Patagonia, within the limits of Tierra del Fuego National Park. The penguins that reside on this island have been attracting travelers for quite some time. Hundreds of them are dispersed in all directions, and they are unafraid of the humans that live among them. As a result, tourists may wander throughout the island while taking in the scenery and getting up up and personal with some of the tiniest critters on the planet.
Isla Magdalena has a unique beauty about it. This island may be considered one of the last relics of pure nature, with desolate landscapes that appear to have been totally unspoiled by mankind. The penguins on the island are free to wander the land and sea, unhindered by cages or limitations. You do not want to miss this sight if you are visiting Chile!
There is only one way to view Isla Magdalena: take a 5-hour boat cruise. The Melinka, a public boat with a capacity of roughly 220 persons, will transport the majority of visitors to the island. Another alternative is to go on a private trip in one of the smaller zodiac boats. If you pick a private trip, transportation and snacks on board the boat may be included. The boats all leave from the Tres Puentes Terminal in Punta Arenas.
