Have Anti-Cancer Properties

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Many researchers believe that olive oil is the reason why people in Mediterranean countries have a lower risk of certain cancers.

Olive oil's antioxidants can help to prevent oxidative damage caused by free radicals, which are thought to be a major cause of cancer. Compounds in olive oil have been shown in several test-tube tests to be effective against cancer cells. According to a new study published in PLOS ONE, a research team led by Hunter College has demonstrated that some extra-virgin olive oils kill human cancer cells while having no effect on normal cells. Previous research has shown that oleocanthal, a component found in some olive oils, has cancer-killing properties.
