Reduce Type 2 Diabetes Risk
According to one research published in the scientific journal Diabetes Care, a Mediterranean diet high in olive oil lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes by nearly half when compared to a low-fat diet.
Olive oil appears to be quite effective in preventing type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common and preventable form of diabetes. Individuals who are obese or overweight and have metabolic syndrome are at the highest risk for developing this form of diabetes. Olive oil has been associated with improved blood sugar and insulin sensitivity in several studies. The protective effects of olive oil were recently verified in a randomized clinical experiment including 418 healthy people. A Mediterranean diet rich in olive oil was shown to lower the risk of type 2 diabetes by more than 40% in one study.
